It is also desired to amend Clause 18 (1) of the

draft Crdinance and also the marginal note thereto by the insertion in each, after the figures 1866, of the words "except section 3".

Section 18 (1) will therefore read as follows:-

"The following enactments are hereby repealed:-

"(1) The Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank Ordinance,

1866, except section 3".

The marginal note will thereupon read:-

"Repeal of Ordinance No.2 of 1866, except

section 3, and 2 of 1924".

I have therefore the honour to re uest that you will

at the expense of the Bank transmit to the Secretary of State

using your own code, a cablegram to the following effect:-

"Re Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation's

proposed New Ordinance.

as follows.

The Bank desires to amend draft Bill

Delete title as drawn and substitute the following title "An

Ordinance to amend the constitution of the Hong Kong and

Shanghai Banking Corporation" (Stop) Clause 3 Delete as

drawn and substitute as follows "The Bank shall continue to

be and shall remain incorporated but there shall from hence-

forth be no limit whatever to the duration of the period of

its incorporation" (Stop). Amend Clause 18 subsection 1 and marginal note by adding after figures 1866 the following words "except Clause 3"."

I desire to remind you that the Bank's present

period of incorporation terminates on the 14th day of August

1929.

I have therefore the honour to ask that you will

request the Secretary of State to expedite the approval of the

draft Bill subject to the above amendments.
